Types of veneers
Modern veneers are thin porcelain plates with a thickness of 0.3 mm, which are fixed to your teeth with special glue, closing the visible part of the tooth, correcting shape imperfections, closing defects, giving the desired whiteness to the smile. Cheaper, still used, composite veneers that are applied directly to the teeth. But composite veneers are short-lived.
The most advanced development in aesthetic orthopedics is lithium dioxide onlays (E-Max Veneers). Once installed, they cover the vestibular surface and the incisal edge of the teeth. They are installed on all teeth in the visible smile zone.
Installation of veneers solves a whole range of problems with the aesthetics and health of anterior teeth without resorting to radical methods such as dental implantation with its difficult healing period and huge financial costs. They also represent an incomparably longer term alternative.whitening.
Composite veneers
This is the most widespread and budget-friendly type of restoration of defects in the visible area. This is a direct method – a filling photopolymer with binding resins is applied in layers to each patient’s tooth, sculpting the shape. Each layer of the composite is “baked” with a special lamp, after which the next one is applied. The strength and durability of the result obtained depend on the quality of the material and the dentist’s compliance with the protocol specified by his manufacturer. For external identity, the desired shade of polymer is selected. Composite veneers cannot withstand heavy loads and their use is severely limited in the area of the cutting edge. Accordingly, unfortunately, it is not always possible to resort to this inexpensive method of restoring aesthetics. Such veneers last up to 5 years, which implies their replacement and additional costs. Also, composite materials have low resistance to staining from drinks or smoking. For these reasons, they are used to form only the distal zones.
Composite veneers are made from cement, plastic, nanomaterials. Produced by polymerization of the feedstock. The best of these are nanocomposites. They lend themselves to polishing, shine well, and are more resistant to wear and tear. Their cost is close to porcelain, however, when comparing aesthetic and mechanical characteristics, they lose.
Porcelain Veneers from press ceramics
The optical and physical properties of such linings are closest to natural enamel and make your smile truly radiant. Installation will require several visits to the doctor, since the process often involves minimal turning of the enamel (no more than 0.3 mm), taking impressions, wax modeling and the manufacture of the microprostheses themselves in the laboratory.
According to the impression of the jaw, a lithium dioxide veneer is made. After that, several layers of dyes are applied, each of which is baked in an oven. This gives them the desired effects, natural texture and shade transitions – such veneers look the most natural.

E-Max-Veniers
The most reliable lithium dioxide veneers are E-Max. Using this alternative technology “IPS E Max Press Multi” (gradient porcelain ceramic), the cap of the desired color is milled according to CAD / CAM technology and immediately turns out to be monolithic and, accordingly, stronger. The technology cannot provide such a variety of colors as manual painting, but it compensates for this disadvantage with its strength (400M) and durability.

The advantages of each type of veneer:
Composite
- The cheapest way to restore smile aesthetics
- Eliminate imperfections in one visit to the dentist
- No teeth grinding required
E-Max
- Withstand the most severe loads – can even be used on chewing teeth
- Practically immune to staining
- The thinnest veneer. 0.3 mm thickness allows the veneer edge to be hidden under the gum
- The longest service life is 15-20 years.
- They retain their original properties throughout the entire service life.
Prices
So, you have explored all the benefits of composite, porcelain and E-Max veneers and are ready to assess the readiness of your budget for the total amount of treatment. So the cost of press-ceramic veneers, although initially more expensive, may end up being lower, since it allows you to completely recreate the natural color of your enamel and dispense with the manufacture of veneers only for those teeth whose defects need to be corrected. E-Max veneers are usually used for the complex correction of the entire smile. The plates are installed immediately on 10 upper and 8 lower teeth, which in total can naturally be very costly, but in this case, all visible teeth will have the same shade. Press ceramics and E-Max are able to hide serious imperfections and radically solve the aesthetic problem. The low cost of composite veneers is formed due to the absence of the need to resort to the services of a dental laboratory and the ability to reduce the number of visits.

Veneers care rules
After installing veneers, the most important rule is to control the load on the teeth where they are installed. Be prepared to discard anything that might split or peel off the plates or chip away the composite. The recommendations below concern more composite veneers, but even if you have installed E-Max, you should not open beer bottles or gnaw nuts with them!
- Don’t bite!
- Brush your teeth carefully!
- No seeds!
- Avoid sudden changes in temperature!
- Be careful with coloring products!
Cut food before eating. Do not bite off or tear hard, fibrous food and any objects with your front teeth: meat, crackers, vegetables and fruits, hard types of cookies. Do not rub food or thread on the back or cutting surface of the incisors.
If food pieces get stuck, move the dental floss towards the inside of your mouth! Use your toothbrush, being careful not to damage the hard part of the veneer. At the first suspicion of detachment, contact your dentist.
At least – brush them by hand and chew with chewing teeth without veneers installed.
It is reckless to drink hot tea in the cold or wash down hot dishes with a cold drink. A sharp temperature drop can provoke detachment or cracking of the microprosthesis.
Composite veneers are more susceptible to staining. With constant exposure, they can change their color, which will entail the need for replacement.
Installation procedure
For composite veneers, the entire installation procedure takes one visit – about half-hour per tooth. Naturally, the tooth must be cured of caries before any veneer is applied. After selecting the desired shade, applying it and hardening the composite, the dentist will grind it in accordance with the anatomical shape of the tooth and carry out the final polishing.
Stages of installing orthopedic or indirect veneers (E-max, Porcelain):
Installation of orthopedic veneers with completely healthy teeth takes at least two visits. There are almost always three such visits – consultation (0.5 hours), preparation and taking of impressions (1.5 hours), fixation of microprostheses (1.5-2 hours).
- Consultation. Examination of teeth and identification of the problem, consultation on methods of treatment. Assessment of the condition and characteristics of teeth and gums. Perhaps the orthopedist will take preliminary impressions here. Calculation of veneers. The choice of material and installation technique.
- Preparation and taking of impressions.Grinding tooth enamel to a specific depth. Small and well-shaped teeth require minimal or no preparation. The turning procedure is completely painless. During the manufacturing of the dental onlays, the grinded teeth will be protected with composite copings. The installation of ceramic veneers is an individual and very precise process. The dental technician uses the impressions to create the future veneer. In modern dental laboratories, CAD / CAM equipment is used for perfectly accurate production of veneers. The technician, using a dental scanner, converts the impression into a computer model, according to which each veneer is made on a multi-axis automatic milling machine. It will take about a week to make all 18 veneers.
- Try-on. If the patient wanted to see and agree on the future result, a 3D wax model is made from the impression and shown to the patient.
- Fixation of veneers. When ready, the patient is invited to the clinic to install veneers on the teeth.
All procedures from the first consultation to fixing the last veneer will take up to a month, depending on the workload of the orthopedists.

Contraindications
In some cases, the fixation of veneers is contraindicated. The habit of grinding your teeth will provoke mechanical damage and therefore bruxism must be cured first. The restoration is also not carried out in case of incompletely treated caries, chronic diseases of the gums or the base of the destroyed apex. Also, if there are 1-3 consecutively damaged units in a row, then the problem cannot be solved by veneers alone – you must first install dental implants.

FAQ
What are the best veneers to choose?
Of the types offered on the market, E-Max is very popular. They have the best physical and chemical characteristics and the highest service life. The only drawback is the need for a small turning of the enamel before installation.
Which is better: veneers or crowns?
Crowns completely seal the damaged tooth with coverage along the neck. They protect it from stress and further destruction. The plate cover only covers the anterior surface and masks aesthetic defects. In the presence of a large filling or a half-destroyed tooth, the installation of a ceramic veneer is not possible.
How to restore the aesthetics of anterior teeth?
In the presence of chips, cracks, curvature, uneven edges, it is better to use the art restoration method and install veneers. In the absence of one or more units, dental implantation is necessary.
Which is better: veneer or lumineer?
The most elegant veneers are premium lumineers. These are the same overlays, but no thicker than 0.3 mm. No preparation is required to bond the ultra-thin but extraordinarily strong petals.
